When Gibson moved the manufacturing of Epiphone guitars overseas they went to Japan, Korea, Indonesia and in 2003 Epiphone started building all (or most) of their guitars in China.  The conventional wisdom  of many people familiar with Epiphone holds that though they are all built to the same specifications, those built in Japan and Korea are superior in fit, finish, craftsmanship and quality control than the Chinese products.

I have read that this is no longer true, but having owned Epiphones made in Japan, Korea and China I not only agree with the conventional wisdom, I have and will continue to pay a premium for an older Korean model rather than settle for one made in China.

This guitar has some buckle rash on back and some scratches on the head stock as shown in the photos (the lighting on the back pic makes the rash look a lot worse than it really is).  There are no other dings, dents, scratches or scrapes anywhere else on the body or neck.  The frets are in outstanding condition (no pun intended) with little to no sign of wear, the neck is straight; it’s just a really good, solid guitar.

A Gibson Super Kit from Guitar Electronics was recently installed.  The kit includes: 4 ea. 500K Audio Taper Precision Tolerance Pots (volume & Tone for each pickup), Switchcraft® Toggle Switch, Switchcraft® Input Jack and 2 ea. Vishay/Sprague® .022 MFD Capacitors.

This Les Paul looks, plays and sounds fantastic.
